Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold consultations on setting up Precinct Election Commissions abroad

22 April 2013 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent invitations to parties and coalitions of parties represented in the 41st National Assembly, as well as to parties represented in the European Parliament, to hold consultations on the staffing of Precinct Election Commissions (PECs) outside the Republic of Bulgaria.

The consultations will be held on Wednesday April 24 2013 at 3pm at the Foreign Ministry building. Political parties will be expected to submit proposals for memberships of PECs in places abroad where there will be polling stations.

The membership of PECs abroad includes a chairperson, a secretary and up to nine (9) members. They must ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Code and the CEC methodological guidelines for polling stations to ensure the smooth operation of voting at polling stations.

If agreement is reached among the participants in the consultations, the Central Election Commission will appoint the proposed members of the PECs abroad. In the event of disagreement, the Foreign Ministry will submit to the CEC proposals for members of PECs, on the basis of which the CEC will make the appointments.
