Political consultations on topical issues on the European agenda between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Hellenic Republic

On 14 May 2024, bilateral political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Hellenic Republic took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the Bulgarian side, the consultations were led by Ms. Gergana Karadzhova, Director General for Political Affairs, and Mr. Yordan Parvanov, Director General for European Affairs. The Greek delegation was headed by H.E. Ambassador Roussos Koundouros, Director General for Political Affairs, and Ms Eleni Hulusi, Acting Director General for European Affairs.
The consultations took place at an important moment for European politics, taking into account the upcoming elections to the European Parliament in June and the forthcoming definition of the EU priorities for the next institutional cycle.
The plenary discussions covered a wide range of topical issues on the European agenda, including the EU enlargement policy, the European integration of the Western Balkan countries, the EU institutional reform, the EU response to the war in Ukraine, the development of a common European approach to the Black Sea region, the situation in the Middle East, tackling the migration challenges.
The two delegations were unanimous in their assessment that the Bulgarian-Greek partnership is of strategic mutual interest and benefits the region of Southeast Europe and the EU as a whole. In this regard, a common will was expressed to further develop infrastructure, transport and energy connectivity between the two countries.
