27 March 2024 News

Dear colleagues,

On 28 March 2024 at 10 am, the European Commission Representation in Sofia will host a conference on ‘Cardiovascular Health in Europe: Challenges and Prospects’. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel hosted the event in partnership with H. E. Ambassador Frédéric Meurice and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in the Republic of Bulgaria.

The aim of the forum is to bring together health experts at national and European level, representatives of the European Union (EU) institutions, scientists and academics to discuss putting cardiovascular health at the centre of the European discourse.

The conference will focus on two main themes — ‘Strengthening the EU Social and Health Agenda: cardiovascular Health Development and Future Prospects’ and ‘Cardiovascular Health in Bulgaria: how to turn challenges into opportunities to deliver better healthcare to Bulgarian citizens’.

In recent years, global public health challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, have placed a strong emphasis on the serious risks that cardiovascular disease poses to different age groups. This highlights the need to develop a strong and consistent policy to reduce these risks and provide the necessary treatment.

The Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU has set the strengthening of the EU’s social and health agenda among its six priorities for January—June 2024. It is essential to engage more European politicians and health professionals in the development of cardiovascular health.

Members of the media wishing to cover the event will be admitted with press badges.
