Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel met with Antony Blinken in Munich

The Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel took part in the 60th Munich Security Conference.

This is one of the largest forums in the world for the security policy community. The conference is attended by heads of government and state, ministers, leading figures from international and non-governmental organisations, senior representatives from industry, media, academia and civil society.

The meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was also attended by Finance Minister Asen Vasilev and Defense Minister Todor Tagarev.

‘Bulgaria is an important partner for the US’, Antony Blinken said. During the meeting emphasis was placed on the cooperation between Bulgaria and the US in the fields of defence and nuclear energy. ‘Bulgaria is a key country in the efforts to protect the Black Sea region, the Eastern flank of NATO,’ Prime Minister Acad. Nikolay Denkov said.

The abolition of visas for Bulgarian citizens to the US and the preparations for the NATO summit in Washington were also at the core of the discussion. The fight against disinformation was also a focus of the talks, and opportunities for further coordination in this context were discussed. Emphasis was also placed on the partnership with the US on joint initiatives and the fight against human trafficking.

‘Cooperation, sustainability, sharing of experience are key in the relations between Bulgaria and the US’, Mariya Gabriel said and thanked for the meeting.
