Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel is on a working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel is on a one-day working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The visit is the first by a foreign minister in 12 years. The purpose of the visit is to develop and deepen cooperation based on common interests and values.

The Arab Republic of Egypt is a key partner of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Middle East and North Africa region. AR Egypt maintains a partnership with the EU as well as an enhanced partnership with NATO.

The first meeting of the Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC), chaired by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, will be held during the visit. The Commission was formed with the signing of an agreement between the two parties in 2018.

The delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel includes Todor Tagarev, Minister for Defence, Georgi Gvozdeykov, Minister for Transport and Communications, Bogdan Bogdanov, Minister for Economy and Industry, Milena Stoycheva, Minister for Innovation and Growth and Rumen Radev, Minister for Energy.

They will discuss the development and deepening of trade and economic relations in areas such as energy, transport, defence, innovation, tourism, food industry.

A number of bilateral memoranda are expected to be signed during the visit.
