Fifth meeting under the Political Consultation Mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Mexico

The fifth meeting under the Political Consultation Mechanism between Bulgaria and Mexico took place on 23 January 2024 in Mexico City. The Bulgarian delegation was led by Mr. Tihomir Stoychev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Mexican delegation by Ms. Jennifer Feller, Acting Deputy Minister in the Secretariat for Foreign Relations. 

Issues of bilateral relations were discussed with emphasis on maintaining a regular political dialogue, the development of trade and economic ties, cooperation in the fields of innovation, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, education, science, culture and tourism. Special attention was paid to the prospect of re-establishing the Mexican diplomatic mission in Sofia.

The parties agreed to maintain a regular political dialogue to contribute to the development of bilateral relations in other areas of mutual interest.

In the field of international and regional cooperation, views were exchanged on human rights, environment and climate change, mutual support for candidacies to various UN bodies.

During the visit to Mexico, Deputy Minister Stoychev held meetings with representatives of the Bulgarian community, with the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Mexico, Ambassador Gautier Mignot, with the Ambassador of Ireland to Mexico, Mrs. Maeve von Heinitz, in connection with the recently inaugurated Central American Relations Development Office at the Irish Embassy, with Mr. Mario Lopez-Roldan, Representative of the OECD Regional Office for Latin America, and with Mr. Dan Tartakovsky, candidate for Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in the State of Mexico.
