24 November 2023 NewsOn 24 November this year at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova welcomed a Georgian parliamentary delegation led by the Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Ms Maka Botchorishvili. The meeting took place immediately after the release of the European Commission’s report in early November this year, which recommended Georgia to be granted candidate country status for EU membership.
‘We congratulate Georgia on the European Commission’s assessment of the country’s progress and encourage you to continue on the path of reform. Georgia is an important partner for Bulgaria in the South Caucasus and the wider Black Sea region, especially in the context of the drastically changed geopolitical environment. As an EU and NATO member state, Bulgaria values Georgia’s geopolitical choice and will continue to consistently support the country’s European and Euro-Atlantic perspective,’ Deputy Minister Shekerletova said.
Mrs. Maka Botchorishvili emphasized her appreciation for the consistent support our country provides for Georgia’s European future and expressed her gratitude for the clearly stated support in the Declaration adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria on 13 October 2023.
Both sides expressed mutual satisfaction with the bilateral political dialogue between Bulgaria and Georgia, which has been developing intensively this year.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the opportunities for deepening cooperation in the implementation of projects of mutual interest, including in the field of connectivity - energy, transport, high-tech and innovation.
