Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel met with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel met with Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass during her working visit to the city. Karen Bass is the first female mayor in the city's 242-year history. He represented the State of California in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 — 2022.
At the reception, Mayor Karen Bass presented Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel with the Los Angeles Certificate of Honour. "I accept it with gratitude and responsibility. Appreciation for the good relations with the Bulgarian community in Los Angeles and the entire West Coast. A responsibility, because together we can make sure that we have more cooperation in key areas such as innovation, green transition and culture, " Mariya Gabriel said.
At the meeting the two sides discussed a number of topics, including the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the United States. Fostering leadership among women and developing young talent was also a key focus of the conversation.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the Mayor of Los Angeles also discussed the possibility of designating a place in the city where a monument to the Bulgarian alphabet could be placed. Symbolically, Minister Gabriel presented Ms Bass with a statuette symbolising a miniature version of the monument to be erected.
"I am grateful for the hospitality of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and her willingness to establish an ongoing dialogue. Only by working together can we highlight the important issues, such as investments and support for citizens, which will contribute to Bulgaria becoming a regional innovation hub," the Deputy Prime Minister further commented.
Mariya Gabriel has extended an official invitation to Mayor Karen Bass to visit Sofia.
