Cooperation between Bulgaria and Ireland helps our country to become an innovation hub
Maria Gabriel delivers a keynote speech at the annual ambassadorial conference of the heads of Ireland's diplomatic representation around the world. The meeting was hosted by Michol Martin, Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence. More than 100 ambassadors and senior officials from the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs attended.
The annual forum was dedicated to the future of the European Union and to strengthening cooperation in order to increase the Union's impact on the international scene.
"For a strong European Union, we need the cooperation and commitment of all Member States and citizens. Equally important is adapting to changing challenges and opportunities," Maria Gabriel stressed. She added that "solidarity and a shared vision make the EU stronger, drawing strength from our diversity".
In recent years, the European Union has managed to respond adequately to a number of crises through solidarity actions and common solutions. As a member state of the Union "Bulgaria is part of these decisions", the deputy prime minister noted.
Maria Gabriel presented the government's priorities for accession to the Schengen area, the euro area and the OECD. Irish support for these strategic priorities was thanked.
In her keynote speech, Gabriel touched upon topics such as EU enlargement policy, security in the Black Sea region, cyber security, innovation and culture.
"Bulgaria has the potential to be a regional innovation hub, attracting talent from all over the world," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Maria Gabriel also noted the contribution of young people to Europe's peaceful and sustainable future and emphasised the role of cultural diplomacy."
"United around common values and democratic principles, let Bulgaria, Ireland and the EU continue to be ambassadors of peace and understanding, ambassadors of a better future", the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
