Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova addressed the participants in the International Forum "History and Future - UNESCO Sites in Italy and Bulgaria", which took place on 2 October at the National History Museum.
Ms. Shekerletova, in her capacity as Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Commission for UNESCO, said that the preservation of cultural heritage is a top priority for Bulgaria and a starting point for international cultural cooperation. She also said that cultural heritage is an integral part of the wealth of humanity, a factor for sustainable development and a connecting thread between nations.
Ms Shekerletova stressed the importance of exchanging experience and good practices in the field of cultural policy-making and congratulated the Italian representatives for their achievements in the conservation and restoration of architectural monuments, as well as in the fight against illegal trafficking of cultural property.
The Forum was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and was organized by the Embassy of Italy in Sofia, together with Confindustria Bulgaria, in collaboration with the Chamber of Architects, the Chamber of Builders and Europa nostra Cultural Heritage.
