The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted political consultations between Bulgaria and Pakistan on 11 April 2023. The event was chaired by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Velislava Petrova, who reiterated the Bulgarian side's desire to intensify bilateral relations based on opportunities for cooperation in various areas of mutual interest. In this sense, the Deputy Minister welcomed the organisation of the current political consultations as a favourable opportunity to discuss concrete practical results of bilateral cooperation. The last round of political consultations between the two countries was held in 2019 in Islamabad.
The topics of the consultations, led by Director General for Bilateral Relations Peter Kraytchev and Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary for Europe Muhammad Salim, included the political and sectoral dialogue between the two countries, as well as regional and global issues, including Russian military aggression against Ukraine, the situation in Afghanistan, climate change, migration processes, the fight against terrorism, and more. The good level of interaction in international organisations was appreciated, including in terms of mutual support for candidatures. The discussions focused on the current state of and prospects for deepening Bulgarian-Pakistani relations. Untapped potential for cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, information technology, innovation, cultural and educational exchanges was highlighted. A review was also made of the successive efforts made by the two countries to broaden the contractual and legal base through bilateral arrangements to deepen bilateral exchanges.
