Difficult weather conditions in Slovakia

08 February 2013 News

The weather situation in Central and Eastern Slovakia is difficult because of the heavy snowfalls that started yesterday. There are snowdrifts and ice on the roads.

The roads are useable in winter conditions, but motorists should drive with caution, especially in the mountainous areas around Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Poprad and Košice, where the situation is most severe. The Donovaly, Skitsov, Veľké Pole, Tisovec, Handlová – Ziar nad Chronom and Súľov mountain passes are closed to freight vehicles. Záhorská Ves – Angern ferry traffic has been suspended because of the high level of the Morava River.

It is expected that in the coming days the situation will return to normal.
