Statement by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vessela Tcherneva on the murder of the leader of the Popular Front in Tunisia, Shukri Belaid
The murder of one of Tunisia’s leading politicians is a blow to the democratic process in Tunisia. Mr. Shukri Belaid was well-known as a sincere advocate of human rights and democratic values. We condemn this assassination and call on the Tunisian authorities to swiftly investigate the incident so that the perpetrators and sponsors of this serious crime can be brought to justice. We appeal to all political parties and leaders in Tunisia for peaceful dialogue and responsibility towards the future of the country.
