Bulgaria was elected as a member of the Executive Board of UN Women and the Executive Board of UNICEF for the period 2023-2025

At the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) elections held on 13 April in New York, Bulgaria was elected by a large majority as a member of the Executive Board of UN Women and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the period 2023-2025.
For the two seats held by the Group of Eastern European States (EEG), Bulgaria was elected by 45 votes out of 54 as a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF, and by 44 votes out of 54 as a member of the Executive Board of UN Women.
The Czech Republic was also elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF (with 41 votes), while Latvia was elected as a member of the Executive Board of UN Women (with the same result as ours of 44 votes). The third EEG candidate, the Russian Federation, received 17 votes for the Executive Board of UNICEF and 16 votes for the Executive Board of UN Women, respectively.
Bulgaria will be a member of the Executive Board of UN Women for the first time since its establishment in 2011.
As a member of the Executive Board of UNICEF and UN Women, our country will be actively engaged in working for the noble goals of these two important UN structures.
