Bulgaria has stated its active participation in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the BSEC

The 44th Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) member states took place in videoconference format on December 17, 2021. Bulgaria was represented by the Director General for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maya Dobreva.

She commended the BSEC's valuable contribution to promoting stability and economic prosperity in the region, supporting common goals and actions for the benefit of Member States and their citizens. Priorities of the Bulgarian side were the further development of the BSEC as a project-oriented organization, its interaction with the EU in important areas such as blue growth, environment, connectivity, and reform processes. Maya Dobreva said that in 2022 Bulgaria will actively participate in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the BSEC initiative, with expanding the potential of the organization and increasing its efficiency and ability to achieve tangible results remaining its priority.The Director General pointed out that in 2022 Bulgaria will continue its active work as a coordinator of the Working Group on the Exchange of Statistics and Economic Information. An important activity will be the preparation of an analysis of the socio-economic situation in the countries of the Black Sea region and the degree of overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, which will serve as a basis for setting joint priorities and taking harmonized action.

The meeting provided an opportunity to assess the achievements of the BSEC in conducting its economic policy and to exchange views on the prospects for further strengthening the cooperation, especially regarding the socio-economic challenges posed by the pandemic.

The BSEC's rotating presidency was handed over to Moldova for the period January 1-June 30, 2022.
