23 November 2021 News

The Director General for Global Affairs Ulyana Bogdanska represented Bulgaria at the annual high-level meeting organized by the International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance, held on November 23, 2021 in a virtual format.

In her speech, the head of the Bulgarian delegation highlighted the traditionally tolerant nature of Bulgarian society, while pointing out that the legislation in Bulgaria guarantees all the rights of Bulgarian citizens, regardless of their religious or ethnic affiliation. Emphasis was placed on efforts to combat anti-Semitism and commemorate Holocaust victims.

The meeting ended with a side event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief.

The International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance was established at the initiative of the United States in February 2020. Bulgaria is among the founders. The Alliance currently has 33 member states from around the world, with their number constantly growing. Once a year, high-level political meetings are organized for the purpose to render an account for what has been achieved and to set guidelines for the next twelve months. The rotating chairman of the Alliance is currently the Netherlands.
