15 November 2021 News

Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev is leading the Bulgarian delegation for participation in the Ministerial Meeting of the Eastern Partnership. This forum is part of the preparations for the VI Eastern Partnership Summit, which will take place on 15 December 2021 in Brussels.

"The forthcoming Eastern Partnership summit must adopt an ambitious agenda for future cooperation between the EU and the Eastern Partners in all areas. Bulgaria attaches great importance to relations with the countries of the Eastern Partnership, whose European aspirations must be encouraged and supported", the Bulgarian first diplomat stressed in his speech. He noted the strategic importance of the Eastern Partnership countries for security and stability in the region.

"The achievements of the partners must be recognized and promoted on the basis of the "more for more" principle and through joint initiatives. Bulgaria strongly supports the Economic Development and Investment Plan. Another key area for co-operation is security and sustainability", Minister Stoev said.

The Eastern Partnership is a platform for dialogue and active cooperation, established in 2009. It involves the EU and the Member States, as well as the 6 partners from the Eastern Neighbourhood: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Belarus' participation is currently suspended. The institutional framework of the Eastern Partnership includes biennial summits, ministerial meetings, senior staff meetings.
