Minister Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of Spain Alejandro Polanco Mata

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain Alejandro Polanco Mata. Among the highlights of the conversation were the excellent bilateral relations, as well as issues related to our cooperation within the World Tourism Organization, based in Madrid.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister praised the cooperation between Spain and Bulgaria in the field of tourism. The excellent bilateral relations as well as the active political contacts were also emphasized. "We hope that despite the challenges posed by the proliferation of COVID-19, the dynamics of our relations will be maintained and will be further strengthened in all areas of mutual interest," said Minister Stoev. In the context of the dynamics of the political dialogue, the forthcoming organization of political consultations at the level of Directors General for Political Affairs in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs was also discussed.

During the conversation, the process of EU enlargement was discussed, as well as the efforts of the Bulgarian government to intensify the bilateral dialogue between Sofia and Skopje.

The forthcoming elections for parliament, president and vice-president of Republic of Bulgaria  on the territory of Spain on 14th November 2021 were also discussed. Minister Stoev expressed gratitude to the Spanish side, which agreed to open many polling stations in the previous elections and this enabled the Bulgarian community in Spain to exercise its right to vote. Minister Stoev expressed hope that Spanish consent would again be obtained for the holding of the vote on 14th November 2021.
