Statement of the MFA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes with deep regret the repeated act of desecration of the memorial plaque of the 15 Bulgarian tourists who died in the accident with the ship "Ilinden" in 2009 in Ohrid.
Such an attitude towards the memory of the innocent victims of a tragic accident is unacceptable.
Any act of hatred against another state or its citizens contradicts the fundamental values of modern democratic societies.
We expect the authorities of Republic of Northern Macedonia to take swift action to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice, as well as to restore the memorial plaque to its original appearance.
Our Embassy in Skopje has immediately sent a note of protest to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Northern Macedonia, expressing the position of our country.
