Deputy Minister Zaritsa Dinkova met with Spanish Ambassador Alejandro Polanco Mata

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zaritsa Dinkova received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain Alejandro Polanco Mata. The meeting discussed priority issues on the European and bilateral agendas, including cooperation in the event of a COVID-19 pandemic, trade and economic relations, national recovery and sustainability plans. The two interlocutors emphasised on the excellent relations and the active political dialogue between Bulgaria and Spain.

Among the topics of the conversation was the deepening of cooperation in the field of education and culture. Deputy Minister Dinkova confirmed the constant interest of Bulgarian students in learning Spanish, emphasising the need to expand opportunities for such studies. For his part, Ambassador Mata emphasised that Bulgaria is a starting point in Europe for learning Spanish with many schools teaching Spanish.

The meeting discussed the good cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries during the closure of borders at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, when joint efforts were needed to assist the return of more than 1,000 seasonal workers in Bulgaria. In connection with the large Bulgarian community in Spain, Ambassador Mata noted that our compatriots are well integrated in the country.

At the end of the conversation, Ambassador Alejandro Polanco Mata gifted Deputy Minister Dinkova the publication "Diplomacy through the hearts of two peoples - 110 years of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Spain", published jointly with the State Archives Agency.
