The history of Bulgarian-Spanish relations is a history of understanding and cooperation, said Deputy Foreign Minister Zaritsa Dinkova, who was a guest at the presentation of the guidebook "In the footsteps of a Spanish diplomat in Sofia, Julio Palencia".
The book was published on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Spain and tells about the Spanish Ambassador to Bulgaria in 1940-1943, Julio Palencia. During his mission in Bulgaria in the period 1940-1943, he saved hundreds of Bulgarian Jews.
"I am deeply convinced that cultural events such as today's will continue to be among the best helpers for mutual cohesion and deepening of the Bulgarian-Spanish friendship," said Zaritsa Dinkova. She stressed that in recent years our bilateral relations, based on shared European values and spirit, have been rich, dynamic and diverse. "I believe that the excellent cooperation will continue to develop and deepen based on our desire to work together to find common solutions to the challenges we are facing," added the Deputy Foreign Minister.
The presentation of the guidebook was realised with the efforts of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Sofia, Sofia Municipality, Kolibri Publishing House and the Organization of the Jews in Bulgaria "Shalom".
On May 8, 2020, we celebrated 110 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Spain. Last year also marked the 80th anniversary of Julio Palencia's presentation of credentials in Sofia as Ambassador of Spain.
