The Minister of Foreign Affairs Svetlan Stoev congratulated the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria on the 30th anniversary of its establishment and stressed the importance of our country's membership in NATO.

"For today's generation of Bulgarians, NATO membership is already an inalienable gift - for 17 years we have been part of the Euro-Atlantic family, in which we share common values ​​and face risks and challenges. For Bulgaria, the preservation of these values ​​and the unity of the Alliance is vital. " This was stated by Minister Stoev in his greeting to the participants in the virtual conference "Atlantic Club of 30: Preparing for NATO 2030 ". The event, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Atlantic Club in Bulgaria, brought together politicians, diplomats, current and former NATO leaders, experts.

"Thirty years of unconditional Euro-Atlantic commitment and courage to be the first in what was an unattainable reality for many in the beginning. Thirty years of tireless work and building a vision for the future ", Minister Stoev addressed the management of the Atlantic Club and emphasized the contribution of the club's president Dr. Solomon Passy, ​​for whom NATO membership was a personal cause.

In his speech, Svetlan Stoev outlined the new risks and threats to the security and readiness of the allies to face them together. Bulgaria is actively participating in the NATO 2030 adaptation process initiated by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, preserving the fundamental principles and validity of the three main tasks - collective defense, crisis management and security through cooperation.

"The Alliance should meet global developments and challenges in a way that ensures collective defense, handles crises effectively and cooperates with other organizations and partners that share our values," the foreign minister said.

He stressed that solidarity is key to the successful implementation of the Alliance's tasks, and in this context stressed Bulgaria's proposal to host a NATO naval coordination presence in the Black Sea, recently supported by other Allies participating in the summit. Bucharest B-9 (May 10, 2021).
