Statement of Minister Nickolay Mladenov on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the democratic changes in Serbia
Ten years ago the people of Serbia laid the foundations of the democratic changes in our Western neighbour by overthrowing the Milosevic regime. “By doing this Serbia took the first step towards its European future. I congratulate the people of Serbia, who then chose to turn their back on the past and walk a new path”, said the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nickolay Mladenov.
The democratic transition and the comprehensive reforms that go along with it are a fundamental factor for the successful result of the efforts towards European integration. “This is a complex, tough process, which demands political determination, will and consistency, and sometimes - readiness to endure hardship and privation”, pointed out Minister Mladenov.
Bulgaria supports Serbia on its way towards EU membership. “We believe that Serbian political leaders have the will and wisdom to continue the necessary reforms in accordance with the values and principles, which European integration rests upon. We are convinced that this way the European perspective of Serbia will soon turn into reality”, concluded the Minister.
