Ten years since the Fukushima tragedy: A tribute to the strong spirit of the Japanese people

11 March 2021 News

We are commemorating 10 years since the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima, Japan, which claimed tens of thousands of lives and caused enormous material damage.

Recalling the tragic events of 11 March 2011, we cannot fail to admire the strong spirit and cohesion shown by the Japanese people during the tragedy and the subsequent restoration activities. We pay tribute to the memory of all those who died in this tragedy!

On March 11, 2011, north-eastern Japan was shaken by a series of earthquakes, the strongest of which was magnitude 9, followed by giant tsunami waves. The disaster caused huge material damage, including to the reactors of the Fukushima-1 NPP, and caused a radiation leak.
