Foreign Ministry Facilitates Dispatch of Part of Relief Aid for Croatia after Tremor

31 December 2020 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Bulgarian embassies in Belgrade and Zagreb to facilitate the transportation to Croatia of the Bulgarian heavy-duty truck loads of mineral water that is part of the relief aid provided by Bulgaria after the severe earthquake there on 29 December 2020.

The first of a total of two heavy-duty trucks was loaded with water at the Bulgarian Red Cross storage facility in the Village of Lozen today in the presence, among others, of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Petko Doykov.

“Minutes after the earthquake, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva talked by telephone with her Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlic-Radman. Our Embassy in Zagreb, too, has informed us that drinking water is a serious problem after the earthquake. Water is in short supply. Our deliveries were organised with the assistance of the Ministry of Economy and the Bulgarian Soft Drinks Association,” Doykov said.

We recall that on 30 December Ekaterina Zaharieva held an emergency conference with Economy Minister Lachezar Borisov and with the Bulgarian Red Cross, at which it was decided to organise urgent deliveries to Croatia with the help of the largest mineral water bottling companies in Bulgaria. The Council of Ministers decided to allocate EUR 100,000 in aid to Croatia for repair of the damage caused by the earthquake.
