20 October 2020 News
Deepening trade and economic cooperation and expanding investment between Bulgaria and Moldova was the key topic of the virtual political consultations between the two countries. For Bulgaria the consultations were led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Petko Doykov, and for Moldova – by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Republic of Moldova Dumitru Socolan.
Petko Doykov highlighted the substantial untapped potential in a number of areas that can be used more effectively in mutual interest of both countries. „Reassuring is the fact that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the complicated situation at borders, in the first seven months of 2020 the trade with Moldova increased with 14.5 per cent,“ the Deputy Minister noted.
„We highly esteem the excellent relations between Bulgaria and Moldova that are characterised by mutual respect and cooperation. The historical, cultural and spiritual closeness of our peoples, along with the shared values, have been instrumental in this,“ he added.
The diplomats expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of high- and highest-level bilateral political dialogue which has been actively evolving in the past years.
Petko Doykov highlighted the exceptional importance of the large Bulgarian community in Moldova as a building block in our relations and noted that this community has always been regarded as a bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. „We highly appreciate the conditions the Moldovan authorities have put in place for the preservation of the national, cultural and linguistic identity of Bulgarian national minority in Taraclia District. I would like to reaffirm the readiness of Republic of Bulgaria to continue working jointly to promote the wellbeing of this community,“ Deputy Minister Doykov said.
