Government Relieves Honorary Consul in Yokohama of His Duties

05 August 2020 News

The Council of Ministers adopted a decision to relieve Japanese national Hisashi Nakayama of his duties as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Japan. His seat was in Yokohama. The decision also closes the consulate that had been headed by him.

Hisashi Nakayama had requested to be relieved of his duties as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in Japan because of his advanced age of 82 years, which prevented him from performing his duties in full.

In the past 16 years Nakayama served as president of the Meiji Corporation and subsequently as the corporation’s honorary adviser, all the while performing his duties as Honorary Consul responsibly. As such he made a significant contribution to the development of relations between Bulgaria and Japan in all spheres.

Nakayama was awarded the Order of the Madara Horseman First Grade in October 2001 for his exceptional contribution to the development and growth of cultural and economic cooperation between Bulgaria and Japan.
