Georgia Thanks Ekaterina Zaharieva for Humanitarian Aid

Besik Amirkhanashvili, the Georgian government’s State Representative to the Samtskhe–Javakheti region, expressed gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva for the humanitarian aid provided in to fight the spread of the coronavirus.

Bulgaria sent Georgia high-quality medical protective consumables (specialized protective clothing, shields, and eyeglasses) that had been donated to the Health Ministry, non-governmental organizations and UNICEF - Georgia.

The letter of recognition received by Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Georgia, Desislava Ivanova, expresses an appreciation of the initiative by Minister Zaharieva, which forms part of the Republic of Bulgaria’s contribution to the EU’s Team Europe campaign in support of partner countries’ fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Eka Ordjonikidze, official representative of the governor of the Samtskhe–Javakheti region, and Nana Lomadze, Chair of the Together for Real Changes non-governmental organization, who had received part of the donation, represented Georgia at the ceremony at which the document was presented.

The Georgian representatives attending the meeting praised cooperation with Bulgaria as part of official development assistance efforts and expressed appreciation of the initiatives in support of underprivileged children in Georgia.

Support for Georgia is part of Bulgaria’s humanitarian assistance for 12 countries of the western Balkans and the Southern Neighborhood amounting to BGN 636,150. This assistance is funded under the official development assistance allocation to the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 2020.
