We believe that democracy has its roots within the society in the Republic of Macedonia. Referenda are an emanation of democracy upheld by those who cast their votes, but also taking into account those that chose not to. Citizens had a free choice and more than 90 percent of those who cast their votes in the advisory referendum stated categorically the country’s aspiration to be part of the European and Euro-Atlantic community. Their vote is clear and visible and for this reason, it should not be disregarded.

It is time for the entire political elite of our neighbour to demonstrate maturity and find a way to solving the challenging problems. A lot is at stake — the future of the Republic of Macedonia and all of its citizens. A large majority of the country's citizens support the country’s membership of the EU and NATO. Wasting time benefits neither the country nor the region. The Republic of Bulgaria will continue to support our brothers and sisters from the Republic of Macedonia and the country’s integration into the EU and NATO.
