"The strength and potential of every national culture to be a building block, to generate messages that co-opt citizens to be active participants in intercultural dialogue, are much more visible and better working beyond their national context.
Today it does not matter whether a culture belongs to a small or a large country, today what matters is whether a culture of a country can articulate succinctly enough the universal values it carries," this is what Todor Stoyanov, deputy foreign minister said in his address at this year's European Salon in Wiesbaden on 16 March, 2018.
This culture forum was created under the initiative and patronage of Lucia Puttrich, Hessen federal province’s minister of european and federal affairs. Every year, the Salon stages cultural events jointly with the overseas missions of EU member states, with this year's edition being dedicated to the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage.
In his address to the attendees, Deputy Minister Todor Stoyanov stressed how important the Salon was as a tryst for European cultures and a tool for promoting intercultural dialogue. "Cultural heritage is not only a part of our past, it is also a significant factor in achieving peace and security, in overcoming global crises and local conflicts, in a mode of interfaith and intercultural dialogue," the Bulgarian diplomat pointed out.
In his words, Bulgaria’s EU Presidency offers our country a unique chance to contribute to the promotion of European culture as an integral part of EU's foreign relations.
"The Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council and the European Year of Cultural Heritage clearly benchmark the direction Bulgaria has articulated in its foreign policy agenda and in its Presidency priorities.
But there is something more to it – it is precisely the cultural dimension of the presidency that has the potential to go beyond its time limit," Deputy Minister Stoyanov said.
During his visit to Germany’s Hessen federal state, the Bulgarian deputy foreign minister held work meetings with Lucia Puttrich, Hessen’s federal province’s minister of european and federal affairs, and with the Federal Province Landtag President, Norbert Kartmann.
During the talks, the officials discussed questions related to EU’s current agenda in the context of the Bulgarian Presidency; they also talked about the ways to enhance the long-standing friendly relations with the Hessen province.
