The Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina will benefit not only the country but also the Balkans
Statement by Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov
The agreement on military property achieved on March 9 2012 among the leaders of six major political forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina is an important step in the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration. The decision on the registration of property of the former Yugoslav People's Army has created the opportunity for the inclusion of BiH in the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP).
At a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Tallinn in spring 2010, Bulgaria was one of the most prominent advocates for granting a MAP to Bosnia. A decision on the issue of military property was essential to putting the Plan in place. Guided by the belief that the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina will benefit all citizens of the country and the region, over the past two years Bulgaria has been actively working through a lengthy process in towards achieving this goal. I congratulate the leaders of Bosnia and Herzegovina on their resolve to act maturely and responsibly for the sake of the stability and prosperity of their country.
