Students from Banja Luka Sing the Bulgarian National Anthem

The George S. Rakovsky School on Banja Luka celebrated the National Day of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU by organizing its traditional Bulgaria Week. Ambassador Avgustina Tsvetkova was the guest of honor at the opening of the celebrations, which are organized annually in tribute and gratitude to the donation made by the Bulgarian government for the restoration of the school building, razed in a disastrous earthquake back in 1969.
Among the highlights of the program was the performance by the school choir of the National Anthem of the Republic of Bulgaria and the medley of Bulgarian folk dances presented by a school folklore troupe. Paintings by school pupils depicting historical facts about Bulgaria, achievements of famous Bulgarians and other Bulgarian curiosities decorate the hallways of the entire building. The school also organized the traditional martenitsa workshop.
Ambassador Tzvetkova handed out martenitsas from Bulgaria to the first-graders, so they could wear them as charms for health and good fortune come March 1. With students in the higher grades, the Bulgarian diplomat discussed the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the EU and the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council.
The school principal, Dusan Mislenovic, greeted the Bulgarian Embassy for the upcoming National Day of Bulgaria and expressed his appreciation for the responsible role of Bulgaria as President of the EU Council. He expressed gratitude for the continuing support of this country for his school through a Development Aid project funding the replacement of the joinery and the lighting installation of the school and the upcoming re-roofing of the building.
