Ekaterina Zaharieva Meets the Leaders of the Spinelli Group and the Union of European Federalists
22 February 2018 NewsDeputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Relations Ekaterina Zaharieva received the Spinelli Group president, Andrew Duff, and the president of the Union of European Federalists, Elmar Brok, who is also a member of the European Parliament (EPP).
The two of them, together with MEP Andrey Kovachev (EPP), the president of the Bulgarian Chapter of the Union of European Federalists, signed and handed to the Deputy Prime Minister the Sofia Declaration of the two organizations, titled ‘A Community of Faith and Common Sovereignty’.
The Union of European Federalists is a pan-European organization established after WWII to propagate the ideas of European unity. The Spinelli Group was founded in 2010 by European politicians willing to introduce the spirit of federalism into the policies of the European Union.
Andrew Duff, Elmar Brok and Andrey Kovachev discussed with Minister Zaharieva the integration processes in the European Union, the proposed reforms of the institutions and the challenges facing the Union. Later today, the two organizations held an international conference on ‘All Roads Lead to Europe? Prospects for a Federal Union.’
