The Treaty for Friendship between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia entered into effect

At a formal ceremony in Sofia, in the presence of Mr. Boyko Borissov, Prime Minister, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria – Ms. Еkaterina Zaharieva and of the Republic of Macedonia – Mr. Nikola Dimitrov, signed the Protocol of Exchange of the ratification documents, whereby the Treaty for Friendship, Good Neighbourly Relations and Cooperation between both countries entered into effect.

“After the signing of the Treaty we saw an increase of 11% in the trade exchange and of 10% in the numbers of tourists. We demonstrated that we in the Balkans are able to resolve our problems on our own”, stated Minister Zaharieva.

“We appreciate the fact that under the leadership of Prime Minister Borissov during the Bulgarian presidency of the EU we were able to draw so much attention to the region” stated Minister Dimitrov.

Before the ceremony in Sofia both Ministers held a bilateral meeting in the presence of Prime Minister Borissov, at which they discussed the next steps in the implementation of the Treaty, the future joint projects and the European integration of the Western Balkans.
