Еkaterina Zaharieva: The reforms on the way to the EU are not easy, but each effort is worthwhile

13 February 2018 News

“Bulgaria brought the European perspective and the connectivity of the Western Balkans to the top of the agenda and I hope this will not end with the Bulgarian presidency. We are maintaining contacts with Austria, Romania and Croatia – they will continue. I am calling on our friends from the Western Balkans – make the most of this moment. The strategy is very timely and fair. The reforms are not easy, but each effort is worthwhile”, said today the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Еkaterina Zaharieva as part of the discussion on the topic of “The future of the Western Balkans and the new Strategy of the EU”, organized by the European Council on Foreign Policy in Sofia.

Bulgaria applied substantial efforts for returning our region to the strategic agenda of the EU. Now, following the publication of the Strategy for the Western Balkans, we can clearly state that the document meets our high expectations, Ms Zaharieva added.

“This document is a source of inspiration both for political leaders, as well as for the general public” stated also the top Bulgarian diplomat and explained that the Strategy was beyond doubt an important incentive for the younger generations”.
