Ekaterina Zaharieva took part in a meeting of women foreign ministers

Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva attended a meeting of women foreign ministers in New York.
The chief diplomats of Andorra, Australia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Ghana, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Namibia, Palau, the Republic of Korea, Surinam and Sweden gathered at the residence of the Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein to the United Nations. They were joined by four ladies holding senior positions at the UN: the Special Representative for International Migration Louise Arbour, the Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba, the Assistant Secretary-General for Gender Equality Lakshmi Puri, and the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Mrs Fatou Bensouda.
The hosts of the meeting: Foreign Ministers Aurelia Frick of Liechtenstein and Margot Wallström of the Kingdom of Sweden, welcomed the ladies and wished them to work for an ever larger representation of the fair sex in diplomacy. Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop shared her concern over the steadily decreasing number of women in government in the Pacific basin countries. She cited as an example Papua New Guinea, where there is not a single lady among the 111 members of parliament elected several months ago.
That was the third informal meeting of women ministers of foreign affairs.
