Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva conferred with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu

Deputy Prime Minister for Judicial Reform and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva conferred with Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu at the Cankaya Residence in Ankara.
Zaharieva is part of a Bulgarian government delegation led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
During their session, Zaharieva and Cavusoglu considered questions concerning bilateral relations as well as the region. The Bulgarian side emphasised that Turkey is a key partner in areas such as migration, security and counter-terrorism. Zaharieva was highly appreciative of Turkey’s contribution to coping with migration pressure and expects the fine cooperation in this sphere to be deepened even further.
The two chief diplomats stressed that the furtherance of bilateral relations should be based on the principles of good-neighbourliness, mutual trust, as well as respect for the national interests of both countries.
They also noted the 1.7 per cent growth of two-way trade, which reached EUR 3.5 billion for 2016. Bulgaria’s exports to Turkey totalled EUR 1.9 billion, and imports from Turkey were valued at EUR 1.6 billion.
