Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the terrorist act in Kabul on 31 May 2017

31 May 2017 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria categorically condemns today’s terrorist act in Kabul and expresses its deep empathy with the suffering of the families of those killed and injured in the attack.

Over the last few days, this was the latest in a series of heinous acts of extremism seeking to destabilise entire countries and regions, claiming the lives of innocent civilian victims, including women and children.

Following the bombing in Manchester, the ensuing gory incidents in Egypt, Iraq and Afghanistan yet again confirm that terrorism does not respect borders and has no ethnic and religious identity.

The blatant disregard of Islamic traditions during the holy month of Ramadan is indicative of the “values” espoused by the radical ideology conveniently disguising itself as Islam and instilling religious intolerance, hatred and mistrust among people of different confessional affiliations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria yet again stresses the need of comprehensive actions being urgently taken at the global level for closer coordination and invigoration of efforts to eliminate the prime causes shaping the extremist ideology in which terrorism is rooted.
