Position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the terrorist attacks in Baghdad on 29 and 30 May 2017

30 May 2017 News

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria categorically condemns the terrorist attacks in Baghdad on 29 and 30 May 2017, which caused the death of more than 60 innocent civilians.

These terrorist attacks are particularly repugnant because they were carried out during the month of Ramadan, which is hallowed by all Muslim and is a period during which, according to time-honoured Islamic traditions, all Muslims are called upon to refrain from violence and devote themselves to superior religious and spiritual duties and pursuits.

Claiming responsibility for the perpetration of these acts, the so-called “Islamic State” yet again revealed its true essence of an organisation which essentially targets the extermination of all who do not share its extremist ideology.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria empathises with the relatives of the victims and wounded and reiterates its support for the Government of the Republic of Iraq, which is waging a war for the complete liquidation of the so-called “Islamic State”.
