"Bulgaria pays homage to a great European, who inspired millions on the road to freedom" reads the inscription on the wreath laid by Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov at the coffin of Václav Havel.
Minister Mladenov, President Zhelyu Zhelev and Petar Stoyanov were today among dozens of world leaders who came to the Czech capital to pay homage to Václav Havel. At precisely noon local time, millions of Czech citizens observed a minute of silence in memory of one of the most important figures in modern history.
On December 19 2011, on the death of Václav Havel, Foreign Minister Nickolay Mladenov said:
“Today a symbol of freedom has passed from the world. For us, the people of Central and Eastern Europe, no one other has in such a manner showed us the way to democracy and given us such sound arguments in the fight against totalitarianism. Although now one of the brightest minds of our time is gone, his intellectual legacy remains to us. His memory shines bright!”
