Position of the MFA in connection with the statement by the DPRK that the country has conducted another nuclear test on 9 September 2016

It is with great concern that we received the news of the DPRK’s latest nuclear test carried out on September 9, 2016. This fifth consecutive nuclear test is in direct violation of the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and the IAEA Safeguards Agreement.
The test, which was one of a series of severe provocations by the DPRK this year, will inevitably aggravate the tension in the region.
We persistently call on the DPRK to suspend its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, to join the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, as well as to resume dialogue with the international community, including in the framework of the Six-Party talks, aiming at attaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia.
