Statement by Minister Daniel Mitov on the political situation in the Republic of Macedonia

14 April 2016 News

Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov made the following statement on the political situation in the Republic of Macedonia:

Democracy and the legal state require from political leaders to live up to their responsibilities. This implies, among other things, to refrain from actions that could undermine the legal order in the country.

I call on all political leaders in the Republic of Macedonia to resume immediately the political dialogue and to seek common solutions to the current political crisis, starting from preserving public order and internal stability. I appeal to restraint from any form of violence.

There is an urgent need for the country to return to the full implementation of the Przino Agreement. Only in this way the Republic of Macedonia could preserve its political stability, legal order and integrity of institutions without which fair and democratic elections cannot take place.

I urge political leaders in the Republic of Macedonia to take up the reform agenda, strengthen democratic institutions in the interest of all citizens, and steer the Republic of Macedonia back to the path of European integration.
