Bulgaria-Serbia political consultations

Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria and Serbia took place on 19 June in Sofia. The talks on behalf of Bulgaria were led by Andrey Tehov, Director General for European Affairs, and on behalf of Serbia by Tanja Miščević, Chief Negotiator for Serbia's accession negotiations with the EU.
The two sides discussed in detail elements of the negotiation chapters and the pre-accession process as a whole, and exchanged views on bilateral matters, including related to the rights of the Bulgarian national minority in Serbia. Serbia is committed to put all the efforts and meet the criteria for opening chapters 23 - Judiciary and fundamental rights, 24 - Justice, freedom and security, and 35- Other issues by the end of the year, and EU membership is a strategic goal of the Republic Serbia, said Miščević.
Within the framework of her working visit to Sofia, Tanja Miščević held a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Rumen Alexandrov. They discussed the expectations of the Serbian side, the views of Member States and the European Commission on Serbia's progress in the negotiation process, the challenges related to the "new approach" to the countries negotiating for accession. Serbia can rely on Bulgaria’s political and technical assistance and support in the negotiations with the EU, Deputy Minister Alexandrov said. Bulgaria actively and consistently supports the enlargement of the EU and is interested in frank and friendly partnership relations with its immediate neighbors.
