Trilateral consultations between Bulgaria, Lithuania and the Netherlands
18 March 2013 Diplomatic CalendarTrilateral consultations on European matters were held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Director-General level between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of Lithuania.
The Dutch delegation was led by Wepke Kingma, Deputy Director-General of European Cooperation, the Director of European Affairs Tomas Gulbinas headed the Lithuanian delegation and the Bulgarian delegation was led by Rusi Ivanov, Director-General of European Affairs.
Important issues on the EU agenda were discussed during the consultations – the preparations and priorities for the future Lithuanian Presidency of the Council, EU enlargement and the Eastern Partnership, the accession of Bulgaria to the Schengen area and the initiative recently launched by four EU member states to establish a mechanism to promote better functioning of the rule of law, human rights and democracy in the Member States. Issues related to the adoption of the new Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union and the completion of Economic and Monetary Union were discussed.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Naydenov received the two delegations.
Today a shared headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania was opened, which will be housed in the current building of the Netherlands Embassy in Sofia.
