If you have been hospitalized abroad, consular officers in the Bulgarian diplomatic missions
abroad can not pay for you the cost of your treatment.
We recommend, before any traveling abroad, to take out an adequate insurance to fully
cover any medical treatment or services.
In case of illness or if you are hospitalized due to any other reason, the consular officers can
help you contact your friends or relatives and assist your insurance company to settle the
issues.
If you travel in Europe and have a European Health Insurance Card, you should note that
some of the emergency medical services are free, but in any case you should have a health
insurance.
