On December 9, 2025 the Annual General Meeting with members of both chambers of the federal parliament was held in the Wellington Building of the Canadian Parliament to elect members of the Canada-Bulgaria Interparliamentary Friendship Group after the federal elections held in the country in April 2025.

Meeting of Ambassador Plamen Georgiev with the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Society of the Ottawa-Gatineau Metropolitan Region.

On December 6, 2025 the Bulgarian Ambassador to Canada H.E. Plamen Georgiev met with the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Community of the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau). The meeting was attended by the Board members Mr. Anton Minkov (Chairman), Mrs. Stella Kostova (former Chairman), Mrs. Vanina Zaharieva (Deputy Chairman), Mrs. Daniela Yoveva, Ms. Elena Aminkova, Mr. Radomir Todorov and Ms. Romina Chencheva (Board members). On behalf of the Embassy the meeting was attended by Ms. Lyubomira Georgieva, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, and Ms. Elka Doncheva, Head of Consular Office.

Premiere screening of the Bulgarian Film “Wedlock” took place at the Art Gallery in Ottawa

On November 22, 2025 the premiere screening of the Bulgarian film “Wedlock” took place at the Art Gallery in Ottawa. The film was selected among many others to represent Bulgaria during the 2025 EU Film Festival in Canada. It was created by the Bulgarian director and producer Mrs. Magdalena Ralcheva and has already received several awards as Best Feature Film (Critics Guild Award) and Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival 2024. The film is based on the book of the very acclaimed and famous Bulgarian writer, historian and anthropologist Nikolay Haitov and features both prominent and well-known Bulgarian actors as well as young and promising ones.

Concert on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Bulgarian Folk Dance Club "Viti Gaitani" from Montreal city, held on November 1, 2025

On November 1, 2025 a festive performance was held in the Canadian city of Montreal on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Folk Dance Club "Viti Gaitani" from Montreal. Over the years, the Club has turned into recognizable folk dance formation of the Bulgarian community from Quebec province. Its performances have enjoyed the attention of the public in various cities of both Canada and USA. The artistic director of "Viti Gaitani" Mrs. Bilyana Hristova was even been nominated earlier this year in the relevant international competition for a Bulgarian Lady of the Year.

On October 18, 2025 a Bulgarian Folklore Festival was held in Ottawa. The event was organized by the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Community’s Foundation.

Honorary award granted to the Bulgarian Folklore Ensemble "Rodina" (Ottawa) on the occasion of its 25th anniversary

On June 28, 2025 the Bulgarian Folklore Ensemble "Rodina", based in the city of Ottawa, celebrated with a large concert the 25th anniversary of its establishment. "Rodina" is the first Bulgarian folklore ensemble in Canada, launched with the aim of uniting the Bulgarian diaspora, preserving the national folklore music and dance and the Bulgarian traditions.

Bulgarian participation in the EU Cultural Festival in Ottawa, Canada

On June 15, 2025 the traditional Ottawa EU Cultural Festival was held at the Canadian Museum of History big lawn. The Festival made it possible once again for the local citizens to get a direct access to the culture, the customs and the traditions of the EU Member States and the uniqueness and the cultural diversity of Europe. The representatives of the EU diplomatic missions provided traditional souvenirs, culinary products, information materials, etc. to the numerous local public.

Mayor of Ottawa proclaims 24 of May 2025 as Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Day

The Mayor of City of Ottawa Mr. Mark Sutcliffe proclaimed 24 May 2025 as Bulgarian Cultural Heritage Day in the Canadian capital. The proclamation was launched thanks to the efforts of the National Capital Region Bulgarian Community and the kind assistance of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Ottawa.
