Election of Members of the Canada-Bulgaria Interparliamentary Friendship Group

On December 9, 2025 the Annual General Meeting with members of both chambers of the federal parliament was held in the Wellington Building of the Canadian Parliament to elect members of the Canada-Bulgaria Interparliamentary Friendship Group after the federal elections held in the country in April 2025.

Senator Yonah Martin (Conservative), founder and co-chair of the Canada-Bulgaria Interparliamentary Friendship Group, was re-elected to this position, and Giovanna Mingarelli, Member of the House of Commons from the Liberal Party, was elected as co-chair.

After the election procedure, Ambassador Georgiev was invited to address the parliamentarians. In his speech he reviewed the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Canada and outlined the opportunities for further advancing the partnership between the two countries. He drew the attention to the significant Bulgarian community in Canada amounting 100,000 people, which actively contributes to the development of the Canadian society.

Mr. Anton Minkov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Community of the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau) presented to the members of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group the organization and its activities.
