Concert on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Bulgarian Folk Dance Club "Viti Gaitani" from Montreal city, held on November 1, 2025

14 November 2025 News

On November 1, 2025 a festive performance was held in the Canadian city of Montreal on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Folk Dance Club "Viti Gaitani" from Montreal.

Over the years, the Club has turned into recognizable folk dance formation of the Bulgarian community from Quebec province. Its performances have enjoyed the attention of the public in various cities of both Canada and USA. The artistic director of "Viti Gaitani" Mrs. Bilyana Hristova was even been nominated earlier this year in the relevant international competition for a Bulgarian Lady of the Year.

The concert program in Montreal, along with the performances of the children and the adults from "Viti Gaitani" Club, enjoyed performances by the "7/8" Folk Dance Club from Boston and by the "Bulgary" Folk Dance Club from Montreal as well. The audience was also presented a catwalk-show with folk costumes from the various ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, highlighting their specifics and rich diversity.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Club’s establishment and on behalf of the Executive Agency to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria, H. E. Ambassador Plamen Georgiev presented the Folk Dance Club “Viti Gaitani” with a honorary diploma, received by its artistic director of Mrs. B. Hristova – as an acknowledgement for maintaining and preserving the wealth of the Bulgarian folklore, its traditions and spirituality among our compatriots abroad and among the friends of Bulgaria in Canada. In addition to that and accounting the contribution of the creator and long-time director of "Viti Gaitani" Mrs. Bilyana Hristova and her dedicated patriotic work in preserving and popularizing the Bulgarian folklore traditions and for launching cultural bridges of friendship between Bulgaria and Canada she was awarded by the Bulgarian authorities with “Paisii Hilendarsky” commemorative medal.

In his speech when presenting the awards, Ambassador Georgiev highlighted the many years of Mrs. Hristova’s noble efforts in upholding the Bulgarian spirit among our compatriots in Canada. He emphasized the symbolic date on which the anniversary concert is held - November 1, the Bulgarian Day of the National Awakeners. This was regarded as of no coincidence, since each of the performers from the Montreal and Boston formations by their wonderful stage performances indeed awakened the Bulgarian spirit of the people in the audience. The importance of the unity of all Bulgarians around the world was also emphasized, since only in their togetherness it will be possible to prosper and maintain the spirituality and the culture bequeathed to the Bulgarians. Ambassador Georgiev highlighted that it is a historical mission, bestowed upon the Bulgarians - to maintain and spread the cultural messages among the nations all around - for the benefit of the humanity and the spiritual elevation of the future generations.
