Visit of Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Bulgaria Ms. Marieta Georgieva to Shanghai

At the invitation of the Ministry of Education of People’s Republic of China (MoE), the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Bulgaria Ms. Marieta Georgieva attended the 2024 World Digital Education Conference in Shanghai on January 29th - 31st.  The conference was co-hosted by the MoE, the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Bulgaria participated in the parallel session “Improvement of Digital Literacy and Competency of Teachers”. She made a speech and presented the digitalization of Bulgarian education, incl. its transformative effect on the process of teaching and acquiring knowledge. She spoke about the Center of Informational Support of Education at the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science, the creation of electronic profiles of all participants in the educational process, “the digital backpack”, the development of digital competencies of Bulgarian teachers and the creation of national digital environment in support of future thinkers, creators and leaders of Bulgaria.    

The Deputy Minister Georgieva took part in a meeting with the Minister of Education of China Mr. Huai Jinpeng and the Mayor of Shanghai Mr. Gong Zheng. She visited Tongji University and its College of Design and Innovation and College of Civil Engineering. She talked with the Executive Vice President Prof. Dr. (Mr.) Lyu Peiming about Tongji University and its international relations with German and other EU Member-States’ universities. Possible opportunities for cooperation with Bulgarian higher education institutions were considered as well.

Deputy Minister Georgieva also paid a visit to Shanghai Pharmaceutical School (SPS) where she found out more about the vocational education in China, was briefed about the history of the SPS and its international ties, observed the school’s laboratories, etc.
