The National Day of Bulgaria – March 3rd was celebrated in the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Shanghai on March 1st, 2024. Compatriots from the Bulgarian community in the consular region were present, together with representatives of local authorities, Chinese state-owned enterprises, universities and Chinese citizens who have studied Bulgarian language.   

In his speech the Consul General Vladislav Spasov underlined that in 2024 we celebrate the 146th anniversary of the restoration of the Bulgarian state and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China. He appreciated the positive developments in bilateral relations during the last year and some important Bulgarian achievements as the awarding of the International Booker Prize 2023 to Georgi Gospodinov’s “Time Shelter” and the decision of the Council of the European Union to admit Bulgaria and Romania in the Schengen area by air and sea as of March 31st, 2024.

The most active in their cooperation with the Consulate General Bulgarian citizens – Stanimir Alexandrov, Dimitar Moskov and Tinko Georgiev – were presented Georgi Gospodinov’s book “Time Shelter”. Children from our community recited Bulgarian poetry and expressed their feelings for Bulgaria.
